Sect 8. Hybrids

Beyond (These unimportant alone are the unimportant differences which Gärtner is able to point out between hybrids & mongrels plants. pointed out by Gärtner. On the other hand, the laws of resemblance to in hybrids & mongrels & in hybrids to their respective parents, more especially in hybrids produced from nearly related species, to their respective parents are according to Gärtner the same. (a) Both hybrids & mongrels can be reduced to the either pure parent-form by successiv repeated crossings in successive generations.

(These remarks are apparently all applicable to [obscured by fold] the subject is here excessively complex, from the frequent partly owing to their secondary sexual differences in those two [illeg] but more especially owing from to the prepotency  both in one species over another & in one variety over another  in transmitting its resemblance being more often  to their crossed offspring, running more    strongly in one sex than the other. (B) both in species & varieties.

Much weight stress has been laid by some authors, on the  supposed  fact which I believe to be co[illeg] the mongrel animals alone are much born quite closely like one of their parents; I believe  but I can be shown that does sometimes occur   with hybrids; but [illeg] I grant much   more frequently with mongrels.
