Mr. Darwin's long expected work on the expression of the emotions in man and animals has just been published. It is written in support of his theory of evolution, and in necessary corroboration of his "Descent of Man." The present work is chiefly in opposition to Sir Charles Bell's view, that man had been created with certain muscles specially adapted for the expression of his feelings— a view which clashed with Mr. Darwin's own belief in the principle of evolution, or of the derivation of species from other and lower forms.
