475a. 1901 London, John Murray. 200 mm. xxi + 432 pp. As F457, but no thousand given on title page. November. Paperback edition with reddish brown cover. Thanks to J. David Archibald.
The contents appear to be the same as F475, but this is the only reddish brown paperback Murray I have seen. The others are light greenish fading to tan. It also does not have a price (1/- net) on the spine as do the others. Finally, it has "Ye Edinburgh Press / 1 New Union Street, Moorfields, London, E.C." printed in small letters at the bottom of the back cover.
Found this in the The World's Paper Trade Review p38 (also as p118) January 16, 1903, "The business of Mr. Charles Crosbie, 17, Took's-court, Cursitor-street, E.C., and that of the Edinburgh Press, 1, New Union-street, Moorflelds, E.C., have amalgamated, and in future will be
carried on as one business under the style of "Ye Edinburgh Press." The partners in the business are Messrs. Wm. Murray, H. Warburton, and C. Crosbie". Hazarding a guess, I would say this press reprinted the 1901 paperback sometime around 1903. |
