RECORD: Anon. 1858. Deaths. [Charles Waring Darwin]. The Times (28 June): 1.

REVISION HISTORY: Transcribed and edited by John van Wyhe 6.2011. RN1

NOTE: See the record for this item in the Freeman Bibliographical Database by entering its Identifier here.

Although it is likely that this announcement in The Times was drafted by Charles Darwin, as was the case with the 1851 announcement of the death of Anne Elizabeth (see F1999), no evidence has been found to demonstrate that this was the case here. This was printed a few days before the reading of the papers by Darwin and Wallace before the Linnean Society of London on 1 July 1858. See F350. This announcement continued to be reprinted, at least through 6 July.
