See Peter Worsley, The Darwin farms The Lincolnshire estates of Charles and Erasmus Darwin and their family, 2017."Henry Payne Mason, the rector of Beesby, Lincolnshire, evidently owned land that bordered CD's two farm properties in Lincolnshire (see Correspondence vol. 4, letters to John Higgins, 10 September [1847] and 21 December [1850]; see legal documents from 1845 and 1846 on the properties in DAR 210.10: 4–11). CD was now selling a small portion of land to him through his land agent in Alford, Lincolnshire, John Higgins. An entry in CD's Account book–banking account (Down House MS) for 29 December 1864 records the receipt of £200 for the 'Sale of Land at Beesby (Paid up Capital.)'."

WHEREAS, the Reverend HENRY PAYNE MASON, M.A., Rector of the parish of BEESBY, in the county of Lincoln, and CHARLES ROBERT DARWIN, of Down, near BROMLEY, in the county of Kent, Esquire, being respectively interested under the provisions of "The Acts for the Inclosure, Exchange, and Improvement of Lands," in the Lands and Hereditaments set forth in the Schedule hereunder written, with the Easements and Appurtenances thereunto belonging, and being desirous of effecting an Exchange of the same, have made application, in writing, to the Inclosure Commissioners for England and Wales, to direct enquiries whether such prospective Lands and Hereditaments, and to proceed with the same under the provisions of the said Acts.
Now the Inclosure Commissioners for England and Wales, being of opinion that such Exchange would be beneficial, and that the terms thereof are just and reasonable, hereby give Notice that they will cause to be framed and confirmed, under their Hands and Seal, an Order of Exchange in the matter of the said application, unless notice, in writing, of dissent to the proposed Exchange be given to them by some person entitled to an Estate in, or to a charge upon, the said Land and Hereditaments, or any part thereof, on or before the 15th day of OCTOBER next.
The Schedule to which the following Notice refers: -
Lands and Hereditaments in which the above-named HENRY PAYNE MASON, as such Rector, as aforesaid, is interested, situate in the parish of BEESBY, in the county of Lincoln, and proposed to be exchanged for the Land and Hereditaments hereinafter specified. No. on Description. |
