DARWIN.

Charles Darwin died in his home, Orpington, England, on the 19th of April. He was born February 12th, 1809. Both his father and grandfather having been men of science, a very thorough education was given him, and he took one degree at the University of Edinburgh, and two at Christ College. Cambridge. In 1831, he was one of the naturalists in the scientific expedition sent around the world by the British government. One of the results of this expedition was the publication of a "Journal of Researches into Geology and Natural History," Afterward, Mr. Darwin pursued his studies in England, and from time to time published the results of his labors. In addition to these there are a number of most important monographs and other contributions to scientific literature. As the man whose name has been adopted for the title of a school of scientific study, Mr. Darwin will always occupy a prominent place in history and particularly in the literature of evolution. As a hard-working student, his example will stimulate close investigation and careful thought.
