It is not "the season," so that there is but little gossip. The latest literary event is the publication of Darwin's "Origin of Species," a book reporting the results of long and profound study, by Mr. Darwin, the traveller who thinks he has proved "species" if not the different genera of animals, to have been produced by accidental varieties, from very few if not one species, at the earliest creation. His book also, even more than Lyell's, contemplates an enormous duration of ages since the first creation.
