Darwin, renowned for his "origin of species" theory, has produced a work of uncommon ingenuity and observation on a singular, and apparently very restricted, subject –viz., "the fertilisation of orchids by insects," which is understood, however, to have a collateral bearing on the hypothesis associated with his name.
