JOURNAL OF RESEARCHES INTO THE NATURAL HISTORY AND GEOLOGY OF THE COUNTRIES VISITED DURING THE VOYAGE OF THE H.M.S Beagle ROUND THE WORLD. BY CHARLES DARWIN. D. APPLETON & CO., PUBLSIHERS. For sale by Breed, Kent & Co.

Of all scientific writes none is more deservedly popular and attractive than the distinguished author of the "Descent of Man" and "Origin of Species." However much intelligent readers may differ in regard to his conclusions, they can not deny the vigor and beauty of his style and the wonderful testimony of scientific investigation and knowledge that is displayed in every argument that he adduces.

In regarding the "Descent of Man" it is incomprehensible how a man could have prosecuted such extensive research into the natural world in one short lifetime. In this volume we are treated to an account of the author's travels. The popularity of the book is attested by the fact that it has reached its fourth edition. The highest authorities have pronounced it "the best book of travel" ever written. For this verdict, however, we were prepared when we saw the distinguished author's name on the title-page.
