There is not much to be said of the literature of the year. There is no very striking work in the list. Perhaps that which has made the greatest "hit" in the year is Mr. Darwin's volume "On the Expression of the Emotions in Men and Animals." It brings all the author's scientific knowledge to bear on his great arguments, and it follows up and completes his remarkable works on the theory of Natural Selection.
