"The Power of Movement in Plants," by Charles Darwin, L.L.D., F.R.S., assisted by Francis Darwin, is published by D. Appleton & Co. Its object is to describe and classify certain organic movements of which nearly all plants are capable. The stem of a climbing plant bends successively to all points of the compass, so that the tip revolves, a movement known as circumnutation, as the faculty for this movement is commonly possessed by plants of every species. Dr. Darwin shows in the course f his treatise that every growing part of every plant seems to be continually circumnutating. Like all the works of the same author, the book is a monument of research and erudition. It is profusely illustrated, and a good index is appended.
