BOOKS TO READ AND BOOKS TO USE.

Mr. Murray's edition de luxe of Darwin's "Voyage of the Beagle" is a book that will bring joy to the possessor's mind. The work itself, despite its comparative antiquity, is still of the deepest interest. The voyage that began in December, 1831, supplied Mr. Darwin with material for observations so accurate and descriptions so picturesque that nearly sixty years after we are still following the Beagle on its long cruise with almost as keen delight as did the first readers. Mr. Pritchett, who has so happily illustrated this edition, has already mane a name for work of the kind. His connections with the voyages at the Sunbeam and the Wanderer have prepared the reader to expect much from his illustrations to Mr. Darwin's text. Most of the views are from sketches made on the spot by Mr. Pritchett, and all these are of very high merit. Others are from engravings which Mr. Darwin had himself chosen as convenient illustrations of his work. The handsome binding and the large type of this edition are a further recommendation. In time, this book is altogether admirable; a comely memorial of its author, and a charming book per se.
