Dear Mr Darwin
Your letter has just been forwarded to me from London. I have had very few letters from your fatehr and these almost all had been written by an amanuensis. I am afraid that their not having been in his own handwriting has rendered me less careful of them than I now wish I had been; at all events I cannot lay my hands on any of them. The

enclosed however having been written by himself I had preserved with care. The memorial to which it refers was one drawn up with the view of obtaining a pension for Mr. Wallace. You can of course make what use you plesae of it, but as it is the only one I possess I prize it very much and shall be obliged by your returning it to me when you have quit fi-

nished with it.
Believe me
very sincerely yours
Geo J. Allman
