My dear Sir,

In accordance with your wish, expressed in the newspapers, I enclose a letter received from your Father last November in answer to one of mine mentioning a fact which I though might interest him. As an utter stranger I little expected the most kind & courteous reply that a post or two brought me; and as one of the [illeg] unknown followers of his teaching, (an old man myself), I need not say how I value it, and that I shall be glad to have it returned when you have made such use of it as you think fit. I had actually begun writing a letter containing a short acct of the result of five months further experiments, which seemed a little worth communicating, when I was shocked by the news of his death. But the bright flame his genius kindled and fed will never again die out.

Believe me, my d. Sir

Yrs faithfully

Fedk Capes
