No.100 East 17th Street

New York, March 3, 1889

My dear Sir,

In accordance with the desire expressed in your note received a few days ago, I take pleasure in enclosing herewith copies of two letters written by your father, which are in my possession. The one about the microscope was unquestionably written on Sunday, march 26th, 1848. The other is very similar in appearance and it is my opinion that it was written only a month after the first one.

I have observed that the "Life and Letters" contains very few letters dated in 1848, and none whatever either to or from Professor Owen.

Very truly yours,

C.F. Fox

To Francis Darwin, Esq.

Cambridge, Eng.
