Emma Darwin recorded in her diary "Children rode pony" on 11 February 1851. She also recorded "went to Leith Hill Pl. with Ch 3 eldest & baby Lenny" on 10 August 1850. Darwin's personal journal also recorded they visited from 10-16 August.

My dear Greta.

We have got a new pony, it is rather a little one. I think your donkey sounds a very nice one. I should like to see your little white guinea fowl.

Are all the little turkeys sold.

On Sunday it was raining dreadfully, and the pit in the sand

walk was full of water. Is your swing taken down ours has been taken down a long while. Have the calfs grown much bigger since I was at Leith Hill? I suppose they have. Goodbye

As you were so kind to send me a beautiful present of a picture Frank and I think we ought to write you a letter of thanks and to congratulate you on being

at such a sweet place as Sand. Few figs, as [Every] was -gate seems to be. I hear you regretting all the way are going to the [illeg] he had forgotten his Aldersons this evening and suck's. I am very glad my dear Effie you do very I hope you took Molly
