REVISION HISTORY: Transcribed by Christine Chua and edited by John van Wyhe 8.2023. RN1

NOTE: See record in the Darwin Online manuscript catalogue, enter its Identifier here. Reproduced with permission of the Syndics of Cambridge University Library and William Huxley Darwin. The volume CUL-DAR105 contains letters from Francis Darwin, 1860-82.

The correction refers to Descent 1: 385, n 75: "Olivier says (as quoted by Kirby and Spence, 'Introduct.' vol. ii. p. 395) that the female of Pimelia striata produces a rather loud sound by striking her abdomen against any hard substance, 'and that the male, obedient to this call, soon attends her and they pair.'"

It appears that the correction was not made in subsequent editions.
