Down Oct Nov 8th 1843 Found in poorest half-bare flinty field much dwarfed Ranunculus— half the flowers were more or less double, either 5 or 7 petals, in simple row, or 5 in outer & one or two or three in inner row, or 3 or 4 rows deep of very regular perfect petals — petals apt to be deformed, especially those of innest row wh are often smaller curled & show traces of anther-like structure— Found Rubi Rubus this autumn with 9 or 11 petals.— Very hot summer — scores of Ranunculus with this structure
