Imperfect Flower, but not quite mature; yet pollen-grains quite spherical in water, & scattered about when anther was torn open, so I do not suppose cd grow larger— The largest were only 5/7000 in diameter & most grains were rather under, so as 5:12 compared with perfect pollen. The grains are surprisingly thin & delicate. compared with pollen from perfect flowers. Anther 38/2000 = 19/1000 = barely 1/50 of inch in length, when anthers of perfect flowers are are rather above 1/10th or 103/1000 of inch in length — Filament (not quite mature) less than length length of anther viz 15/1000 of inch in length. In each cell of an anther of imperfect flower pollen-grains toward apex lie in single row & can be counted when anther viewed as transparent body object — in middle part is double or even almost treble row: about 35 in each anther-cell or 70 in whole anther.

The number as nothing to perfect flower — See H. Von Moll Mohl for number in Viola &c.—
