Darwin, C. R. 1877. Fritz Müller on flowers and insects. Nature. 17 (29 November): 78-79. F1781

[26]

Solanum palinacanthum v? Novr 21-77. Flowers dried sent by F. Müller; in the short-styled stigma much smaller & pistil much shorter than in the long-styled ─ anthers large, of about same size, in the 2 forms; but as pollen-grain seen equally good & of same size in the 2 forms I do not believe sp. is heterostyled, & theoretically it wd be a great anomaly, as wd not ensure cross-fertilisation.─
