Adlumia cirrhosa.— Aug. 15 64. —

First-formed leaves apparently not sensitive— Second leaves apparently sensitive only towards tips & capriciously so — Leaves very long, with 4 lateral pairs of compound leaves. —

One young leaf made a narrow ellipse (open at one end) in 1° 36' & the tip moved in this time 3 inches in one direction & back again — The second ellipse was broader & shorter & less regular, & was performed in 2° 2' & the tip of leaf moved 2 1/8 of an inch from extreme point to point—

What use these lowest leaves catching?

For there was no axis; hence, of course, leaves alone moved—
