[130]

Bignonia Chamberlaynii— Tendrils catch by near grapnel & by middle. Axis revolves─ Middle & longer toe can catch stick.—

Oct 25th The longer toe is often thicker than the 2 others, & these are often thrown rather backwards, i.e. all 3 do not diverge equally.— The middle toe, after 2 slight rubbing became very slowly curved, but on lateral toe which was tried did not curve— Certainly middle toe is sensitive to rubbing & to catching.— Oct 30th — It is certain that 3 toes are all sensitive to prolonged pressure, but in slighter degree than in B. littoralis. — so in main t. close to the toes & in its middle — The toes can clasp mere string.— Yet considering great shortness & inequality of length & thickness 3 toes tending to abortion & leading to B. speciosa.—

Petiole very long— I believe long petioles moved but plant sickly. —

(2 toes usually, but variable 2/3 of length of longer, middle toe & thinner.)
