Spherostema [Sphærostema] marmorata (a small order)

A young internode with unopened leaf moved in about 6° only 90°; the shoot then became more upright & moved quicker so that the semicircle was completed in about 8°(?) The lower internode surmounted by very young & just opened leaf did not apparently move. —

climbs well

(Does it always move so slow? Is the young shoot sensitive?)

Moved with watch.

Aug. 5th — The old internode did not move; three upper internodes, together about 10 inches in length, all moved; but the lower of these three, though bearing quite young leaf, moved only a little; the 2 upper moved with watch excessively slowly.

I put stick to be clasped, which rather interfered with judging of time. this was clasped in from 20° to 22°;

but it stopped (€) being completed: I believe € wd take nearly 24°. It The uppermost internode has now begun winding round stick. It travelled during night.— The winding rises from right to left

Aug 7th There is no doubt this plant good climber, from right to left: at 12°. 30' took away stick—.

In Hot house made a €, I think in 18° or 18°. 30'

N.B. All the Apocyneæ move with curled or hooked tip in advance. —No not always

Aug. 27.— A short shoot on summit revolved in 25°. 30' in Hot-house. —

The hook at tip of Spherostema reversed itself. when painted externally
