Aug 8'— 1864. Hibbertia dentata.

I gave it also a mass of twigs, but the shoots after ascending for a space came out laterally. I then gave it a number of nearly parallel straight sticks; then the shoots ascended well always turning reverse of sun (ie from left to right) & often leaving one & going to another or 2 or 3 others together — The shoots which came out of twigs ascended these sticks also— Apparently it tests in the ramble laterally from stem to stem.

The depending shoots do not turn abruptly up, as is so general with twining

Plants — This is first case of especial adaptation in Twining plants, which I have seen — probably others may be adapted to thicker & thinner supports.
