Trop. pentaphyllum— March 6th — 64

Tip of thin shoot bowed over about 9 in. high. Moves with sun in a circle.

First circle 2°. 58 2nd circle in 2°. 52

3rd circle when sun shone in 2°. 28. 1°. 46'

(Upper young leaf after 3 slight rubs with minute twig bowed a little in 8 min & in 12 min. bowed so that leaf crossed the shoot in 4 1/2 hours became nearly straight. When the peduncle fairly clasps the stick it never straightens itself again but the upper part can clasp a stick.—

Another young leaf moved just perceptibly after a touch in 10 min. & in 17 min. was greatly bowed was not straight in 4° but was straight in 6°

[88v]

April 9' 5 inches of thread (.125) causes certainly slight flexure but not permanent—

A far heavier piece of thread if it slips down to fork with stem causes no action.— ie fork not sensitive.

April 10' It is certain that .125 of thread causes considerable temporary flexure — Half this weight causes no action.— Fork not sensitive

[88b]

March 7th

Cold day. Peduncle rubbed on lower side did not move in 15' but in 25' was well bowed. In 6° straight again

Another leaf (plant being made warm) after touch became slightly curved on lower side in 10' & considerably in 15 min. — became straight in 6°

Another leaf rubbed slightly on upper side was slightly curved in 6.' & considerably in 8' — became straight a 3°—

Does not spirally twine, but catches by leaves
