Maurandia Barclayan (Scrophulariaceæ)

Young leaves sensitive to a touch & very slowly move. I think a trace of movement in 45'. Certainly some in 3°— slowly recover their old position. Leaves slightly lobed posteriorly at right angles to peduncle. Plant with numerous shoots upright with tips slightly bowed over. On 19th one moved opposite to sun. Next day same shoot moved with sun in long & broad oval course, & made 2 circuits in exactly 6° 34'. i.e. each in nearly the same time viz. 3°. 17'—

[96v]

The plant climbs beautifully round thick branched twigs, peduncle taking full turns the twigs.

April 5

5 inches of string (.82 gr) causes peduncle to twist.

10 inches of thread (.25 gr) sometimes, but not always, caused movement—

5 inches of thread [illeg] (.125 gr) caused movement
