June 3 1864 (Bean) After Nissolia add that almost the only species in the large species of Vicia which as not tendrils is V. faba. In this between terminal leaflets where t. ought to stand there is a filament rather above 1/3 of in inch long, which clearly seems a rudiment of a t. It tapers to fine point, is slightly bowed downwards, is variable in shape being almost cylindrical or flattened or deeply furrowed on upper surface near base sometimes membranous & expanded with black nectar secreting gland as on stipules. is not sensitive
