[90]

In Lindleys Veg. K. 1853 he makes 59 figures alliances including in these 59 3 peculiar Classes as Rhizogens &c. Out of the 59, 35 have twiners or tendrils, or leaf climbers. These are taken from Palm & Mohl's lists in 1827, to which I have added a few, & no doubt a botanist might add many more. These 35 alliances are scattered throughout whole veg. k—. To these certain two cryptogamic alliance of ferns & Lycopods must be added.

Out of the 35, Ophiophogon 23 include tendril or leaf climbers, on the other hand only 3 or 4 alliances have the 2 latter without having also twiners. This shews connection of the Classes & the subordination of one to the other.

Then go on & shew what twiners & tendrils imply & the consequent interest of the fact. Insist in great fams like Compositae 2 or 3 climbers having the usual characteristics
