clamour the troops rush furiously against each other. Brehm, when accompanying the Duke of Coburg-Gotha in Abyssinia was himself a witness in the pass of Mensa of an attack with fire-arms, began by his party on a troop of baboons. These animals in return rolled so many stones, some as large as a man's head, down the mountain, that the attackers had to beat a quick hasty retreat; & the pass was actually for a time closed actually against the caravan which followed. It deserves notice that these baboons apparently acted in concert. Wallace *(19) on three occasions saw female Orangs, with accompanied by their young, begin "breaking off branches & the great spiny fruit of a Durian tree, with every appearance of rage; & causing such a shower of missiles, as effectually kept us from approaching too near the tree.")
