[184a]

In the 4 list lists to be made, omit all those species & genera which are struck out in pencil.

Also omit whole genera Rosa, Rubus, Salix, & Hieracium; but do not omit Carex. End at Filices.

First, make list of all species which present varieties in the printed list: do not regard the vars, added in M. S. at foot of page. You must count the few species having varieties which are struck out with pen; [illeg] at p. 1 column; but distinguish these struck out varieties by a little cross to species. Neither number of vars, nor number of species to each genus to be counted.

Ranunculus flammula 18

Thlapsi alpestre 6

Cochlearia officinalis 18

[Barberis] vulgaris 15

Viola canina 18

Then count number of these species havng vars & add up figures opposite to them.

Second list. All the species marked with (-) with figures opposite to them: count number of species & add up figures: in this list some of the species in the species in first list will perhaps be repeated. No. It will be better to make one list; with two columns for numbers opposite to those with (-) & those without a dash.

Third list. All the other species, not marked with (-) with figures opposite: add these figures & count the number of species. This list & 2d list will include whole Catalogue, except the struck out species.

Where genus has only 1 species, you need not copy specific name.

Where a Species has no number opposite it, or only a Letter, omit altogether such species.
