Asa Gray N. U States. Augt 1857.
Summary of all results— omitting Salix from doubts & Carex from vast numbers & all introduced plants — (but not falsifying thus the results — there are in (& it is not possible to divide sp. more equally)
genera having 5 species & upwards. 1005 species
in genera with 4, 3, 2, & 1 species 917 species (= total 1922 sp)
Of these counting the two kinds of varieties marked by different type (viz ordinary vars, & vars, which may prove to be species.)
species presenting such two sorts of vars. 116 97/1005 = 109/1000 = 96/1000
of the two sorts of vars themselves 138/1005 = 137/1000
species presenting such two sorts of vars. 77 65/917 = 70/1000
of the two sorts of vars. themselves 89/917 = 97/1000
Now for the undoubted slight vars. by themselves
of species presenting such vars. 61/1005 = 60/1000
of species presenting such vars. 34/917 = 37/1000
such slight vars themselves 89/1005 = 88/1000
such slight vars themselves 46/917 = 50/1000
