Answers to Duchenne Plates

(7) 1/2 face Laughing 1/2 crying

First for 1/2 laughing

19 recognized laughter — amusement — smiling, correct only 2 fir could give no answer.—

(7) The 1/2 crying face

6 correct, if excepting grief, intense misery & arrogance as correct

16 altogether wrong, — some ludicrously wrong — saying "fun" — "satisfaction" "cunning" "disgust"

This shows that something is wrong about the latter 1/2 face — perhaps not expected in old man & no tears

(8) one eyebrow very oblique — (1/2 face alone shown to many beholders)

6 answered right, accepting "tragic feeling" "arrogance" "pain" "distress" "subdued sorrow" as correct

(9) were absurdly in error or cd give no answer five amusing surprise or bewilderment, or incredulity

(9) young man acting grief

14 answered quite correct — saying "despairing sorrow" "suffering endurance" "unhappiness" — "melancholy" & so forth

one alone was very wrong scorn.
