Astonishment (Animal expression)
As on in so many other cases, some several causes conjointly as to open mouth — when startled sudden & deep respiration, apparently preparation for excretion — for sake of hearing — & when paralysed by excessive attention & exhaling from relaxation of muscle.—
I think monkey monkeys breathe more they more & less through mouth that we do — my account for less a tendency to open mouth no under astonishment.
