Chamois and other mountain sheep stamp on the ground & utter a kind of whistle, as a danger signal; but how these originated I cannot conjecture, for I am not aware that they fight with the fore legs — Sta Wagiti stags stamp from rage, but this is not surprising & they do fight with fore legs. — Rabbit stamps with hind legs as danger signal; & will those confined it — clear that this stamping is not read as a signal but express fear & anger.—

(Bulls paw the ground, but it is doubtful whether the pawing is like that of the horse.)
