Dom. Animals.

Schutz on the Torfschwein. Good discussion of Origin.

[Variation 2d ed. 1: 71: "Nathusius, whilst he fully admits the curious fact first observed by Rütimeyer, that the bones of domesticated and wild animals can be distinguished by their different aspect, yet, from special difficulties in the case of the bones of the pig (Schweineschädel, s. 147), is not convinced of the truth of the above conclusion; and Rütimeyer himself seems now to feel some doubt. Other naturalists have also argued strongly on the same side as Nathusius.6
6 See J. W. Schütz' interesting essay, 'Zur Kenntniss des Torfschweins,' 1868. This author believes that the Torfschwein is descended from a distinct species, the S. sennariensis of Central Africa."]

M. Wagner see Index die Darwinsche Theorie 1st Ed. p. 19 Good on dogs in the East not selected & not forming races. Perhaps under selection D

[Variation 2d ed. 2: 222-23: "Dogs are held in abomination in the East, and their breeding is neglected; consequently, as Prof. Moritz Wagner49 remarks, one kind alone exists there. The ass in England varies much in colour and size; but as it is an animal of little value and bred by poor people, there has been no selection, and distinct races have not been formed.
49 'Die Darwin'sche Theorie und das Migrationsgesetz der Organismen,' 1868, p. 19."]

Dr Sagot de l'état sauvage &c. p. 9 & 10 good on vars of wheat. p. 59 good on feral pigs. X
