1869. p. 220 Mr Taylor — read Scientific Comm of Hort. Soc.— had heard from Scotman that they had succeed, & thus raised many new vars, some mottled — cuts out all eyes from stock & insert a wedge-shaped piece with eye — flower can be [cultivated] — & various other qualities such as earliness — Procured endless variation.

Grafting 2 red potatoes produced white ones, so that variation is thus caused — In succeeding generations.

Testimony Extraordinary variability — all colours & shapes — curious sport.

1869. p. 334 Fitzpatrick — received Mr Taylors hybrid 3 years ago

p. 335 do. grafted the growing stems — tuber 1/2 & 1/2 black & white

do red & white red in patches — or colored on opposite sides

red & black — spotted & striated — red predominating

1012 Remarks by Dr. Masters — true adhesion occurred as in other grafts

1869; p. 1018. R. Hort Soc. Mr Fenn— "a well-known potato-grower" on the following year foliage foliage of "milky white" effected

XX milky white with flake — character of skin at one end smooth & at other end rough

Onwards into Hero — colour of shoots affected

1870. Sept. 24 p 1277 & 1283. R. Hort Soc.— Fresh evidence from Mr Fenn himself & Dr. Masters remarks thereon Mr Fenn great experience says it is "a demonstrated fact" (& he has had experience in hybridising potato by pollen) (Fenn has raised many new varieties) Argues. that the case is probably true — characters intermediate (Product 3 years from graft — [Hardness] not like Milky white of which eyes were inserted into Almonds Yorkshire Hero) flowers & other qualities altered

70 p 1506 Mr Rintoul 59 grafts — in many intermediate in shape of tuber, in roughness of surface & colour — or different in different part of tubers. — H affected.— all between 3 very different kinds.
