Jan 30/70/ I have made out pretty clearly that [jackals] nor Wolves nor foxes cover up their excrement, though all bury superfluous food, yet wolves scratch backwards like Dogs, & I am almost sure jackals are said to do so in St. Petersburg Paper No — I saw a giboon rather fox-like) Jackal depress ears when caressed; & Bartlett says Jackals certainly put tail between legs when frightened; & I have seen formerly
