Ireland breed after kept for several 10 years from pale ♀ & common of Bl. w. ♀ appeared.

­— child granddaughter daughter slightly paler produced ♀ black-winged - - so 2 ♀ appeared.

— young – black-winged when leaves shall differ by being pinkish from the young of the white breed.— as they grow old leaves all white — Black-winged always smaller & worsted by common kind.—

2d letter [from A. S. G. Canning 24 Feb. 1874]

Black-winged, whilst young or old all alm[ost] alike, whether produced from black-winged 2 common or from 2 different parents 2 black-wings. — Both kinds occur in same sel of eggs.
