Jun 18th 1879. Hybrid Geese
7 eggs in 2d nest – 3 Hatched – The fewness partly owing to unnatural conditions confined in cage with no water to swim on. – In a [sitting] to gather number of eggs not fertilised, as the female is only [illeg] as no water & I had tossed them to a pond for the purpose.
The 3 young ones now a few days old very fine – legs & feet of all muddy-coloured – beak of one almost wholly black except tip. Of 2d half yellow & black; of the 3d chiefly yellow.
