1846 June 18th. After month of very hot weather - Brick-red upright Lily, but last years was abortive: this year has every pistil right & in each flower 4 or 5 of Anthers with a very little pollen - & pollen under 1/10 lens apparently good; burst in water - Stamens properly shaped a few, however, without anthers. The later flowers had every pistil stamen considerably aborted & with no trace of Pollen –
