Aug 12/47/ On my theory, abortive organs allow of prophe telling, that animals with such & such a structure once existed – thus chenolobia tells of the possibility of Octomeris

The abortive sutures in Conia allow of possibility of some species thus increasing – in Chthamalus no abortive return & one may foretell no species will thus increase – How much more interesting & instructive they thus are.

What interest one feels in the gradation of forms – how sure one feels in the hypothetical statement – How one speculates on the steps & knows that such steps must have existed.
