"the foliaceous bracteæ are scarcely in any one species constant" the peduncle of the female spikes is for the most part sessile, but sometimes is of considerable length, as in C. flava— the division of the capsules at the summit most part coloured, yet not unfrequently divided." "I have said stated as specific character, that C. axillaris has capsule divided & C. remota entire; but in neither is this constant.— There are difficulties in the classification of this genus. —
