Mr Cuming thinks that a species variable in one place is everywhere variable.
Says amongst Chitons often vary in colour & shape, but not in marking in same harbor. The C. Cumingii (?) is slightly different at Valparaiso, Arica & Lima. — Says the different isld & even townships have different varieties or species (leans to latter view) — seems to think this is quite the rule — fine species. —
Says the Madagascar & Philippines marine shells of the same species differ in size & brilliancy. — thinks shells from very distant localities often differ a little.
