In Australian skulls, the sphenoid & parietal bones are completely separated, whilst in Europæan skulls, they meet for the space of nearly 1/2 an inch. Prof. Owen has observed the same separation in six out of seven skulls of young chimpanzee. But though the above peculiarity is found in the Australian race alone, it is not constant; I have a skull, in which on one side sphenoid touches parietal & on other is separated by 1/6th of inch
