May 24th I can now say that I have (12) 3 new nests with slaves.— I took several F. fusca from independent communities & put them in nest of F. sanguinea & all which I could follow were invariably killed. I took one slave after 24 hours in Battle & put back in nest, it was seized & threatened by 4 or 5 masters & then let go, but I failed in tracing it further—
[103v]
May 25th turned out another slave into same nest, was not hurt, but not noticed.—
In a nest with many very small slave-makers could not perceive that the big came out nest.
1859.—
