[text excised]sday. I fd a 6th nest with slaves (Back) (2 at Moor Park, makes 8 nests

I traced from 37 yds from nest a straggling column of ants carrying pupæ & a few dead F. nigra; hurrying home with their prey. The spot of thick heath whence they emerged, when I arrived the last came out with a pupa & here I saw 2 f nigra carrying pupæ, & not travelling which convinced me the nest was near, but I cd not find it. The foray was just over as I arrived.

Fresh ants were arriving, but all soon returned home. It was 6 P. m. They travelled by much more open line than usual.—

This 6th nest was partly under a large stone. By digging in earth I found a colony of same small yellowish ants, which agr pupæ I gave to foragers of F. sanguinea.— I found now that though they with wondrous hurry rejected carried away their own pupæ, they disregarded those of yellow Kind; & the little yellow ones always began by collecting F. sanguinea, (but were soon killed) have the dislike of F. sanguinea for these little yellow kind. It shows that the yellow Kind is not really sociable but take up its habitations near other ants.— N.B I saw a F. nigra carry away egg of yellow kind but then one does not know whether, may not be for food.—
