Gould remarked to me how strange it was that swallows were so abundant in Australia & not one in N. Zealand— & not one Crow in N. Zealand, though they range to S of Tasmania.— How exactly parallel to Hookers Plants.— If N. Zealand has ever been connected with other land it has been northward, as shown by migration of Cuculus Taitensis Jan 27 /60/
