Biberg in 2d Vol of Amœn alludes to Gmelin's fact of spawn passing through stomach of Ansers – therefore published before 1762 & apparently then well known— Biberg says Gm alludes to case as well known by Siberian Peasantry.

Lyell's reference to Essay 75 is only to a later allusion to it. There is catalogue in Royal Soc. of all papers in all Transact before 1800 (look to this for this & other points)
