Athenæum Brit. Assoc. 1851. p. 754 Forbes on shells of Azores & St. Helena. — old continent certainly from plants more connections between Azores & Europe, than with N. America, no doubt. I do not believe Forbes.— I shd think more of it if Azores &c presented fragment of Secondary or Primary rocks.— again they wd. have had Mammalia

A priori we shd have expected oceanic volcanic islds from history of volcanos — & if there was such difficulty of communication as Forbes supposes, then there wd have been island with the poorest vegetation.
