J. B. Jukes. Narrative of the Surveying Voyage of the Fly Vol I. p. 342 shows that the Barrier has not been depressed for a long time; but believes it has at one time & he remarks (p 347) that it bears on the Marsupial character of New Guinea. Was the subsidence then anterior to present species - This is too Harmonic.
